About the Ascension School Board

The School Board is advisory group which assists the Pastor and Principal. It develops and recommends policies, recommends the School's budget, recommends tuition rates to the Pastor, helps to promote the School and its programs, and assists with fundraising.

Each spring, three members are elected to serve a three-year term. The Principal and Pastor also serve on the Board, but are not voting members. The Pastor retains the final decision-making responsibility on all Board recommendations. The School Board does much of its work through committees (finance, academics, etc.) which may include both Board Members and other concerned parents, parishioners, or faculty. 

The School Board meets regularly, usually the second Monday of each month.  The School Board Schedule is available on this web site and through the school's Wednesday Mailing.  School parents and parishioners are welcome to attend Board meetings, which include a public comment period.

		Meet Your 2010-2011 Ascension School Board
		Jill Pollard has two boys at Ascension. Jill has an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Illinois, an MBA in international business from Loyola and she currently works as a Quality Analyst for CCH, Incorporated, a topical law publisher. Jill has been an active volunteer at the school for the past six years, serving on Home and School and as the co-chair of the auction for the past two years. She is also a room parent and the volunteer coordinator for shopping certificate sales.

		Wendy Schmiedeler has one child currently in school at Ascension, one who will attend next year, and another still at home. Wendy has degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Portland. She has been teaching in Catholic middle and high schools since 1994 - for the past nine years as a member of the English Department at St. Ignatius College Prep. She has volunteered for different school events and she and her husband assist with the Baptismal Preparation program at the parish.

		Patrick Hess has three children attending Ascension. Pat has an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, as well as a law degree from the University of Illinois. He is a partner in a litigation firm. In addition to working with the Big Brother program for ten years, Pat has been involved with the Ascension Religious Education program, serving as a catechist and also as a member of the Religious Education Board.

		Niki Drever has an undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University and an MBA from National Louis University. She is currently working at Resurrection Health Care in the Information Technology department. She has three children at the school that are in eighth grade, fifth grade and PK-4.

		Erin Fitzgerald (Ascension Class of 1988) has a BA from the University of Dayton and is employed as a project manager at TMA Associates.

		Mike Kelty has a BA in history and a secondary certificate from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. He has been a substitute teacher at Ascension since 2007 and has two children in attendance.
