Mrs. Pesce was a recipient of the Archdiocese of Chicago's Heart of the School Award in 2000.
Send
a Catholic
e-mail greeting with
art work from Ascension Students.
Created for the Campaign for Human Development, this painting placed in
a national contest a few years ago.
Art
Achievement
Last year four students from the class of 2009 Art Club entered the Catholic Campaign for Human Development contest to combat global poverty. The students and Mrs. Pesce researched the topic and discussed what would be needed to help people out of poverty situations. The painting took second place nationally. Monetary awards were given to the students and with a matching amount going to The Northwest Neighborhood federation.
Mrs. Pesce's students received an honorable mention in the 2004 National
Catholic Campaign for Human Development Contest, "Breaking the
Cycle of Poverty in America." Ascension achieved recognition for
the last four years of this national competition.
Art Club 2008-2009
Art Club students earned a second place nationally for the painting they entered in the Catholic Campaign for Human Development annual contest. This year's theme was "Empowering People to Combat Global Poverty." The CCHD contest awards $375 to the school and matches it with a gift to an approved charity that Ascension chooses. Congratulations to Mrs. Pesce and 2009 graduates Marian Woznica, Ruth Whittaker, Mary Kate Skalitzky, Megan Wirtz and Colleen Gartland.
Grade
7 does their paper maché projects. These are always a challenge.
Grade
6 presents designs for the school Christmas card.
Grades
4 and 5 work on projects having to do with line, shape and color.
Grades
K - 3 will be working on painting and drawing as well as large fall
characters. Cutting skills and the use of different art tools is
well underway
Art
is a fundamental part of education. It provides students with the
opportunity for expression and communication at every age level.
This expression allows students to become aware of and recognize
images and spatial relationships.
Art
is a problem solving process. Students create and carry out ideas
to form the whole, completed project.
Appreciation
of the creative experience at all levels is gained through their
own projects and the works of other artists.
The
art process helps students organize their thoughts for other areas. Visit
the Art Studio Gallery to see samples of student work.
2010: Welcome back to a new school year. We are already busy creating in all grade levels. The primary are working on a variety of projects to improve their skills. K-1 are working on scarecrows while 2 -4 are working on paintings that will introduce them to composition, depth in a picture, overlapping and size diminishing with distance.
In grade 5 we are learning to work like Georgia O'Keefe-- enlarging subject matter so that it becomes the whole picture. Grade 6 is creating a black, white and gray composition using all cut out shapes-like Matisse. Variety in value and size as well as good composition skills are necessary.
Grade 7 has begun the all time favorite project- paper maché and grade 8 is working on the auction project. A variety of denim objects are being painted in all shapes and sizes. Any one can purchase these . There are some child items that are really popular. More on this later. I guess you can say that we are in the swing of things already. Thank you for checking out the art department.
Remember a quote from Picasso- " Art takes from the soul, the dust of life".
Did you know that among current Ascension students, Mrs. Pesce is famous for her rap? Listen up to hear verse one.
Congratulations to Michael Winters, the recipient of the 2011 Kathy Adams Masterpiece Award. His work was judged to best capture the spirit and technique of the artist, Hokusai.
Each
year, 8th graders enjoy a tour of the Art Institute of Chicago.
There is design
in everything! This shattered
glass was photographed in Boston.
We
are happy to be working in the studio again! We are delighted with our new Art Tables, thanks to the 2006 Auction Fund-A-Need program.
