Mrs. Pesce's students received an honorable mention in the 2004 National
Catholic Campaign for Human Development Contest, "Breaking the
Cycle of Poverty in America." Ascension achieved recognition for
the last four years of this national competition.
Art Club 2008-2009
Art Club students earned a second place nationally for the painting they entered in the Catholic Campaign for Human Development annual contest. This year's theme was "Empowering People to Combat Global Poverty." The CCHD contest awards $375 to the school and matches it with a gift to an approved charity that Ascension chooses. Visual
Arts

Art
is a fundamental part of education. It provides students with the
opportunity for expression and communication at every age level.
This expression allows students to become aware of and recognize
images and spatial relationships.
Art
is a problem solving process. Students create and carry out ideas
to form the whole, completed project.
Appreciation
of the creative experience at all levels is gained through their
own projects and the works of other artists.
The
art process helps students organize their thoughts for other areas.
Welcome back to another year. As usual, this year the 8th grade will work on a project for the auction.

The Class of 2010 has begun work on their contribution to Auction 16: License to Bid. With the help of Mrs. Fran Gregory, Mrs. Pesce is teaching students to make pins and pendants using clay. Using a few simple techniques, the students have created Klimpt designs that are then crafted into beautiful jewelry. Watch for pictures of the finished products!

Wonderful News

Last year four students from Art Club entered the Catholic Campaign for Human Development contest to combat global poverty. The students and Mrs. Pesce researched the topic and discussed what would be needed to help people out of poverty situations. A design was crafted by each of the four students. Then elements from all four drawings were combined with the visual elements and principals of art in mind. The students created a painting steeped with meaning and visual excitement. The painting took second place nationally. Monetary awards were given to the students and with a matching amount going to The Northwest Neighborhood federation. This organization works with the community to help youth within their boundaries. We can be very proud of our part in bringing about social justice awareness through the visual arts.
