To open the year, the sixth grade classes began with a review of basic global features and definitions related to time and place.

6th Grade Curriculum (PDF)

The seventh grade explores the roots of our country, and how these roots grew, changed, and helped shape the present society we live in.

7th Grade Curriculum (PDF)

The centerpiece of the eighth grade history curriculum revolves around the successful completion of the U.S. and Illinois constitution tests. A passing grade on both tests is necessary for promotion into high school. These units of study will begin during the final grading period of the school year.

Faculty & Staff > Kenneth Sengstock

Junior High Social Studies

Mr. Sengstock is the Social Studies teacher for grades 6, 7 and 8. Mr. Sengstock has an 8th Grade Homeroom.

Textbook readings and corresponding questions are the main sources of homework in world history, assigned to assess student comprehension of the content and as preparation for discussion the following day.

Teacher-created tests are administered at the completion of each unit, and generally include short answer questions, fill in the blank questions, essay questions, multiple choice questions, and matching questions. All students are invited to come to morning study sessions that are scheduled on test days.

As an extension of the world history curriculum, all of my classes and I attempt to keep up with current events that are shaping our nation and world. Our classes have full-period discussions every other week or so.

This year, we will be paying close attention to the presidential primary elections and caucuses. To enhance discussion, I usually ask that students bring in a national or world news article to share with the class.

Mr. Sengstock is the moderator for Student Council. The 2011 - 2012 Student Council Officers are: President Damian Richardson, Vice-President Will Zimbler, Activity Director Siobhan Doherty, Secretary John Pollard and Treasurer Ireland Flannery. Congratulations!

Bill won the Ascension Bee in 2012 as well and advances to State finals of the National Geographic Geography Bee.

The purpose of a study guide is to help you prepare for an upcoming test. It is not considered homework. It will not be graded or collected. However, I strongly recommend that it be completed. Familiarity with the following information will put you in good shape when test day arrives.
