Soccer

Soccer is the only sport at Ascension that the boys and girls play together.
Soccer Season usually begins at the end of August, and ends the 3rd week in October.

Search for addresses and directions to all schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

We have four teams at Ascension, a 5th grade team, a 6th grade team, a 7th grade team, and an 8th grade team. The teams are usually large in numbers, anywhere from 20 - 35 players.
There are NO tryouts; all eligible Ascension students may participate (see the Ascension Athletic Handbook for eligibility requirements.)
Ascension is a member of the Classic League. For Soccer the League is broken up into two divisions: Junior Varsity consists of 5th grade teams, 6th grade teams, and some combination 5th/6th grade teams.
Varsity consists of 7th grade teams, 8th grade teams, and combination 7th/8th grade teams.

Fee for soccer is $75.00.
Registration form, medical form, and fee must be paid and turned in before the first practice.
Uniforms: An Ascension uniform is supplied, but MUST be turned in at the end of the season.

Ascension students love Soccer. The soccer season is a great way to launch Ascension athletics each fall.  Thanks to all the volunteer coaches who make sports possible at Ascension School and to all the parents who come out to cheer on the Chargers!

Practices are held at either at Euclid Park (Roosevelt/Euclid in Oak Park) or Maple Park (Harlem/ Roosevelt in Oak Park). Typically practices are twice a week starting anywhere from 3:45 PM until 5:30 and usually ending one hour after start time. Coaches will hand out practice schedules and game schedules as soon as the information available.

Games can be any day of the week usually between 4:00 - 6:00 PM, and Saturdays anywhere from 9:00 am - late afternoon. The schedule of games will not be ready until late August, when the Athletic Directors or program coordinators meet.
Each game has four 12-minute quarters. Each team plays 15 - 18 games plus playoffs.

Our home fields for games are
Taylor Park at Division & Ridgeland, (this field is usually used on Fridays) and
Lindberg Park on Greenfield between Marion & Woodbine (2 blocks east of Harlem 1 block south of North Avenue.) Varsity games are usually played on the big South field, and Junior Varsity games are played on the big North field on Saturday mornings.
