2008: Ascension's 23nd Annual Kathy Adams Run-A-Thon What a fabulous day for Ascension School! Ascension students ran over 11,000 laps in Friday's Run-a-thon to raise money for our school. Watch this page for the final lap count and the dollars raised at our twenty-fifth annual Run-a-thon! Many thanks to co-chairs Barb Fitzgerald and Jean Bowling, to the voices of the Run-a-thon, Peg Mackie and Erin Brewster, and to all the volunteers who helped the day go smoothly! And congratulations and thanks to our runners! Love that shirt!! This year's t-shirt was designed by an Ascension student! Under the direction of Art teacher Mrs. Pesce, our students had a chance to participate in a competition to design a new Run-A-Thon logo. The shirt includes business sponsorships on the back (business logos representing the kind folks who support the work we do at Ascension.) Support at this level also entitles you to inclusion on our website, and participation in our Ascension Partners program. Other businesses (and families and friends of Ascension) can participate by purchasing ad space in our Run-A-Thon slide show to shown continuously during the run. |

History Ascension's Run-A-Thon started in 1983 as a way to raise funds for our school. The idea came from Ascension parent, School Board member and then teacher Mrs. Kathy Adams. Ascension students collect pledges from friends, neighbors and family and then, on the special day, run (or walk) as many laps as they can in fifteen minutes. They are awarded t-shirts for participating and win prizes based on the level of pledges they bring in. When Mrs. Adams died in 1996 the event was named in her honor. The Run-A-Thon is a favorite annual event for many students and parents. How can I help? As you can imagine, it takes a lot of help to run the Run-a-Thon! We need volunteers to help set up the day before the big event, many to work during the day, some to help in the weeks afterward with paperwork and prize distribution. We also need your underwriting support to help defray expenses: printing costs, the purchase of T-shirts and prizes for the children.
