Temple Har Zion
6th grade students visited West Suburban Temple Har Zion in late May. Rabbi Mirelman welcomed students to the sanctuary and answered questions from the students. He discussed our common faith traditions, and showed the Torah Scrolls in the Ark. We enjoyed the beautiful Gropper windows in the Community hall.
We are very grateful to Rabbi Mirelman, who is retiring soon, for his hospitality over the years.

Saint Project
During October, 6th graders worked on a report on a significant saint of the church. They discovered the qualities of that saint that can inspire us today. Later, students found pictures or icons of the saints. In computer class, each student added their own faces. The pictures were on display for parent-teacher conferences.

Both 6th grade religion classes recently acted out Bible stories for their 3rd grade buddies. The children enjoyed hearing about Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Sacrifice of Isaac. |

Father McNally regularly visits classrooms to instruct and to answer student questions. Students love having their pastor teach the class! |
The students in Grade 7 attended the presentation and blessing of the Bible service on Thursday, October 1st. Fr. Larry talked about using the Bible as a source of daily prayer as the priests and deacons do. The scriptures preserve for us memory of the people of God and supports us in learning about our faith. The Bibles were blessed and the students were reminded to care for them as they use them to prepare for prayer, class, the Sacrament of Confirmation and on into high school. |

The Bible
6th graders study the Old Testament of the Bible. They are going to hand-copy a part of a Psalm on prepared paper to look like a manuscript form the Middle Ages. Mrs. Doherty, a calligrapher, came in to teach us how to make beautiful capitol letters. Mrs. Pesce is collaborating with us and we work in the Art Studio once a week. |

Here, 6th graders are working on designing the border and large capital letter for the Psalm. The design will be transferred to paper that has been "aged" to look like old parchment. Samples of completed Psalms are below. |
