Autumn/Halloween Poems

The 5th grade poems were wonderful. Some gave me the creeps and some made me hungry. When we were reading our poems we were acting like cool cats. For an applause, we snapped out fingers.

Pottery
For Social Studies extra credit all of the fifth graders had a chance to make a piece of pottery. You used salt dough to make your potter. Once the potter was formed and dry we painted it. Now all of the pottery is turned in and each piece is unique and colorful. One even looks like its from an archeological dig!

Seed Germinators
On September 24 rooms 203 and 204 made germinators. Germinators are made of 2L pop bottles that are cut in half, germinators are also stuffed with paper towels and after that you put in six seeds and then you add water. When you finish making the germinator wait about ten days then you will start to see roots, stems, and leaves. Making the germinators was very stellar. --Audrey

Teacher note: We made germinators in order to study the organ systems of plants. Many germinators are bending toward the light of the windows. This is called phototropism. |

Log Cabins
The Ingalls family made their house from logs that they cut on their own. The fifth grade had to do a project to recreate their cabin. We could use paper, cardboard, sticks or even pretzels! we made lots of cabins for mini Ingalls family members. -- Graham

Today we made butter out of heavy whipping cream. First, we put two jars in the freezer. A while later we took the jars and put the heavy whipping cream in. |

We shook it until it was nice and thick. We did this because in Little House on the Prairie the Ingalls family just got milk. So we said that they could make butter. We decided to see how they made it back then.

We took the whipping cream out and put it on crackers. We had butter. |

After we finished, we got to try it. It tasted rich because of the fat in it. It tasted great. ----John

5th graders created acrostic poems. Each poem has to do with fun filled school activities. As you can see, there are some very artistic students in 5th grade.
