4th Grade

Welcome to the fourth grade! This is the year that begins the bridging process between the primary grades and junior high. We are emphasizing organizational skills and personal responsibility as the children take on a greater workload. They learn how to prioritize assignments, balancing daily work with longer-term projects.

This is the first year that students change teachers for one of their core subjects. Mrs. Murphy, top, teaches Science to all fourth graders. Ms. Rafa teaches Social Studies to all fourth graders.

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday night and occasionally on Friday. All assignments are to be written in the assignment notebook. An assignment is considered late if it is not handed in the day it is due. Late assignments must be completed, but will be lowered by one grade.

Each Monday, a folder is sent home containing corrected papers from the prior week and a report on conduct and missing assignments. Monday folders should be initialed and returned on the date indicated on the folder.

Long term assignments are also given; these may include monthly book reports, writing assignments, Science or Social Studies projects, and reports. These projects take time and effort, so they should be started promptly.

Completing assignments promptly and managing time efficiently are important adjustments for 4th graders. Setting up a homework space and time with proper supplies will help the fourth grader make these adjustments.

Mrs. Murphy and Ms. Rafa know the importance of the partnership between school, parents, and other caregivers. We are all working toward the same goal: a happy, well-adjusted, successful child. The teachers appreciate all the support and assistance that our wonderful Ascension families give throughout the year.
