2nd Grade

Ms. O'Meara, Mr. VanLinden Mrs. van Thorre Mrs. van Thorre and Ms. O'Meara are our Second Grade teachers. Mr. VanLinden is the 2nd Grade Assistant. Many unique activities make Second Grade an exciting place to learn.

Flat Stanley enters the curriculum early in September as he is sent home to visit individual families and community helpers. Later in the year he is sent out of state to help us learn about other communities. Finally as we study Earth Day and our relationship with other countries and continents he is sent abroad.

The second grade journey is one of fun and learning!

for Grade 2

Gold Books are presented to the children as our formal preparation for Communion begins in October. The children and parents participate in an initiation service during which children are welcomed as members of the First Communion class.

Throughout the year, the children participate in projects that service Ascension Church through the Ministers of Care and the senior citizen community of Oak Park. Service projects have included painting pumpkins with Oak Park Arms seniors and making and donating Christmas ornaments for home bound parish members. Academic, social, and spiritual growth is fostered by participation in these activities.
