Christmas 2007

Some of our favorite Christmas traditions.

Cake

The Baby Jesus Cake

Each year Mrs. Geselbracht decorates a birthday cake for Baby Jesus with Mrs. Sklaney’s first graders, telling the story of the nativity as she uses frosting to draw the road and the stable, the animals, the star and the Holy Family.  Thank you for this gift, Mrs. Geselbracht:  Christmas is in this story and in the face of these children!

“The best Christmas pageant ever!”

Ascension’s fourth graders usually present the story of the lineage of Jesus for their classmates and parents before school dismissed for Christmas vacation.  Using the gospel, the children portray the ancestors through whom God worked as He prepared the world for the birth of his son.  Mrs. Ondrla, Director of Religious Education, coordinates the presentation with help from Mrs. Coffman and the Chamber Orchestra, Mrs. Creed and Mr. Anderson.

Herod the King
Jesse Tree

Junior high students made elaborate Jesse Trees in 2007. The Jesse Tree uses symbols from the Old Testament scriptures to show the ancestors of Jesus.

"Come To Us, Lord Jesus " the Christmas Program
was presented on December 13, 2007

Concert

The students of Ascension School thrilled the audience that packed the church for their annual Christmas concert on Thursday.  Children in grades one through three sang and orchestra students from all grades accompanied them and added pieces of their own to the program.  The concert is one of the most exciting events of the year for the primary grades – and their families!

Ensemble

This special ensemble played for "Gentle Mary Laid Her Child."

Music staff

The program is put together annually by Mrs. Creed, (center) Ascension’s music teacher and Mrs. Coffman, director of the strings program.  Mr. Anderson, director of music for Ascension Parish, helps complete the evening each year.
